SUMMARY
A young girl, born over a thousand years into the future, accidentally steps into the mist of a war stricken land, carrying the one thing with her that can heal or destroy their land, a scared crystal known as the guardian heart crystal. As five brothers are drawn to her and become her protectors, the battle between good and evil turns to a battle of the hearts.
Now, with the Crystal shattered and the enemy closing in, the last thing they expected was a spell to turn them against each other. As tempers soar and secrets are kept, jealously becomes a dangerous game between the powerful brothers. When possession becomes an obsession can the brothers keep the enemy from claiming the one person they are all trying to protect?

None, but the guardian, noticed the wind as it changed, bringing with it the scent of demons.
Shinbe stopped raising his face to the sky. Just as
Toya noticed the change in atmosphere, Shinbe was at
Kyoko’s side. With his staff in one hand, he put it
in front of her. Stepping behind her, he grabbed the
other end, with his other hand, and pulled her back
against him. He used the staff to imprison her to
his body so he could protect her this time. Shinbe
called out, “Who’s there?”
Kyoko gave a started ‘Eep,’ as she was pulled back
into Shinbe’s chest, but a strange feeling of safety
came with it. Turning her head, she looked up at
him. His face was chiseled in hard lines, as his
eyes searched for an intruder. She could feel the
rapid beat of his heart against her back, along with
the heat of his body.
Toya let out a growl of frustration as he quickly
pulled the twin daggers in one fluid motion. Quickly
pushing off with his left foot, Toya lunged at the
surrounding brush with his claws extended, teeth
bared, and his hair fluttering wildly.
Debris flew through the air as laughter rang out,
and a shadow rose high, then landed among them. Suki
quickly grabbed her bayonet and took a battle
stance. Kaen’s hands and feet burst into flames, going into battle mode and baring his fangs,
positioning himself between Kamui and danger.
Kyoko melted backwards into Shinbe’s hard body, as
her eyes locked with Hyakuhei’s deep black orbs. Her
breath caught in her throat as a predatory smile
graced his lips. A tremor ran through her when those
dark eyes fixed on her, as if seeing inside, where
he didn’t belong.
“Shinbe,” Hyakuhei eyed the couple. “So possessive,”
he taunted. Then his eyes hardened on the guardian,
“Why is that?”
The muscles in Shinbe’s jaw clenched as he gritted
his teeth, wondering if Hyakuhei would destroy
everything by telling Kyoko the truth right now,
taking the option out of his hands. His body
tightened around Kyoko’s automatically. He didn’t
like the way Hyakuhei was looking at her.
Rage nearly rolled off Toya in waves, and his jaw
clenched automatically as he drew in harsh breaths
through his nose. He didn’t like the way Hyakuhei
was acting, as if he had the upper hand, “Shut the
fuck up, and fight. You son of a bitch.”
Toya leapt at Hyakuhei, ready to rip him to shreds
with his extended claws. Hyakuhei turned, releasing
several deadly extensions, and effortlessly caught
Toya in mid-air, halting his flight. Surprise didn’t
even have time to register on the guardian’s face
before he was thrown into the nearby rocks.
Suki threw her bayonet at Hyakuhei, only to have it
knocked back by the extensions, and thrown back at
her. Kaen had Suki and Kamui high in the air, and
out of danger’s way within seconds.
Kyoko shrieked. Her friend was barely missed by the
deadly blade. Then she noticed Hyakuhei’s attention
had turned back to her. Angry now with Hyakuhei, she
lost all fear. She strained forward, wanting to rip
him to shreds herself, only for Shinbe to slam her
back against his body. He whispered urgently in her
ear, “Stop it, Kyoko. He is only baiting you.”
Hyakuhei’s annoying laughter rang out again as he
held the girl’s eyes. “Come now, Kyoko. How can you
even trust those around you?” he swept his hand
indicating her friends, Shinbe included. “Especially
when all they do is hide the truth from you,” his
words were condescending, as if he were
disappointed.
Kyoko’s eyes skipped to where Toya was now trying to
stir. She breathed a quick sigh of relief that he
was all right, before turning irate eyes back to
Hyakuhei. “It’s too late, Hyakuhei. Your game is
already up. We know it’s just a spell you have us
under, and we are fighting it,” she declared
defiantly.
Hyakuhei raised his head a fraction, his eyes taking
on a minimal red tent. “Dear Kyoko, but the spell
has yet to touch you,” his evil laughter rang out at
the look that crossed the group’s faces.
Kyoko frowned in confusion, ‘What did Hyakuhei mean?
Wasn’t she under the spell, too? What about all the
feelings and dreams she had?’
Toya stood up now, mad as hell, “Shut up, you
bastard!”
Hyakuhei’s gaze moved to the guardian quickly, “It
hurts, doesn’t it? Knowing her deception and
betrayal, but not facing it.”
Shinbe had heard enough. Shifting Kyoko to where he
could wrap the arm holding the staff more securely
around her, he loosened the beads releasing the
power.
Hyakuhei’s eyes became deadly and he hissed, “I
wouldn’t do that if I were you, Shinbe.”
Shinbe returned the gaze steadily with the look of a
man that had been pushed too far. He growled, “Some people are worth the pain.”
Holding the beads in his fist, he straightened out
his arm. He slowly opened his hand, activating the
void, despite the danger.
Hyakuhei cackled as the wind tunnel started, “Do you
want to die so quickly then?”
